Theda Rhea
Born in Texas and currently residing in the Houston area, Theda
received her original fine arts training at the Museum School of
Art in Houston. During a subsequent five-year residence on Catalina
Island she studied with West Coast artists who helped her develop
her distinctive style as it relates color to form. She has won numerous
awards including Best of Show at the 8th annual Catalina Festival
of Art, 1st place at the Los Cerritos (CA) District Art Festival
for three successive years (1966-1968) and 2nd place at the Midland
(TX) 1969 Regional Art Exhibit Professional Division.
Following her years in California Theda has taught
art in New Mexico and Texas. Her vibrant color and mastery of composition
continue to define her art technically and she has stated that:
"I am interested in art as it relates to human emotions and
life itself." In addition to museum exhibits and publication
illustrations her work is in numerous private collections throughout
the United States.
